85-year-old Cameroon president declares ambition for 7th term

If elected, Biya could well rule into his 90s.

Paul Biya, the president of Cameroon, has announced his intentions to run for 7th term in office.

The 85-year-old president came to power in 1982. He has been in office for close to 36 years.

Biya announced his intention to seek another term via his official twitter handle on Friday.

“I am willing to respond positively to your overwhelming calls. I will stand as Your Candidate in the upcoming presidential election,” he said.

The presidential election for Cameroon will hold on October 7th. If elected, Biya could well rule into his 90s.
