Spotify Brings 350,000 Audiobooks to Nigeria with N2,300 Monthly Add-On

Free and Premium users can buy Audiobooks+ for 15 listening hours a month, and Nigerian authors can publish through Spotify for Authors.

Spotify has launched audiobooks in Nigeria, making a catalogue of more than 350,000 titles available to listeners in the country from October 14, 2026. The move extends the streaming platform beyond music and podcasts in one of its fastest-growing African markets.

Both free and Premium users can subscribe to an add-on called Audiobooks+, priced at N2,300 per month, which includes 15 hours of listening time. Listeners who use up their hours can buy an extra 10 hours for N2,700, and individual audiobooks can also be purchased outright to keep.

A new channel for Nigerian writers

Alongside the consumer launch, Nigerian authors and publishers can distribute their work through Spotify for Authors, the company’s publishing tool. Industry watchers say this could give local writers, especially those working in genres such as romance, thrillers and personal finance, a new way to reach readers who prefer to listen on their commute or while working.

Audio content has grown steadily in Nigeria as smartphone adoption increases and data plans become more flexible. Podcasts about business, relationships and faith already attract large audiences.

Key points

  • Catalogue: more than 350,000 audiobook titles.
  • Price: Audiobooks+ costs N2,300 a month for 15 hours.
  • Top-ups: an extra 10 hours costs N2,700.
  • Purchases: individual titles can be bought to keep.
  • Creators: local authors can publish via Spotify for Authors.

Tips for new listeners

Background

Nigeria is one of Spotify’s key markets in Africa, and the company has previously published data showing strong growth in streams of Nigerian artists both at home and abroad. Audiobooks were first rolled out in markets such as the United States and the United Kingdom before arriving in more countries.

Listeners who want to save data can download titles over Wi-Fi for offline play. It is also worth checking how many hours remain on your plan in the app, since unused hours may not carry over. As more Nigerian titles are added, the service could become a useful way to discover local voices in literature, alongside the international bestsellers already on the platform.
