Asake and Seun Kuti Submit Entries for the 2027 Grammy Awards

Asake's album 'M$NEY' is entered for Album of the Year and Best Global Music Album; submissions are not nominations.

Two Nigerian artists, Asake and Seun Kuti, have submitted work for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards, according to the Recording Academy’s submission lists shared by the artists’ teams and reported by entertainment outlets. The entries cover several categories, including the Best African Music Performance award introduced in 2024.

Asake’s entries

Asake has entered his album M$NEY for Album of the Year and Best Global Music Album. The single “Gratitude” has been submitted for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best African Music Performance. “Jogodo”, his collaboration with Wizkid, is also entered in the African Music Performance category, while “Worship”, with French producer DJ Snake, is submitted for Best Dance Pop Recording.

Seun Kuti’s entries

Afrobeat bandleader Seun Kuti, the youngest son of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has submitted the songs “Na Dem” and “Problems” for Best African Music Performance. Seun has received Grammy nominations in the past for his albums with the band Egypt 80.

Key points

  • Asake: M$NEY, “Gratitude”, “Jogodo” with Wizkid and “Worship” with DJ Snake.
  • Seun Kuti: “Na Dem” and “Problems”.
  • Main category for both: Best African Music Performance.
  • Important: these are submissions, not nominations.

Submission versus nomination

Every year, thousands of recordings are submitted to the Recording Academy. Voting members then decide which works become nominees, and the final nominations list is announced several weeks later. Being submitted therefore indicates eligibility and intent, but does not guarantee recognition.

Background

Asake has become one of the most commercially successful Nigerian artists of the 2020s, known for his blend of Fuji, Afrobeats and amapiano rhythms and for large arena concerts in Africa, Europe and North America. Seun Kuti continues to lead Egypt 80, the band that once backed his father, keeping the classic Afrobeat sound alive on international stages.

Nigerian artists have become regular names on Grammy lists in recent years, with wins and nominations for musicians such as Burna Boy, Wizkid and Tems. Fans will be watching the nominations announcement closely to see whether Asake and Seun Kuti make the final cut.
