The Akwa Ibom State Government is constructing a Court of Appeal complex in Uyo, a project aimed at easing the difficulties lawyers and litigants face travelling to Calabar for appeal hearings.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom, SAN, disclosed this on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while presenting the Ministry of Justice scorecard at the 12th edition of the Inter-Ministerial Briefing, held at Akpan Isemin Hall, Government House, Uyo.
According to him, the project followed representations made to Governor Umo Eno over the burden of travelling outside the state for appeal hearings. The site has been handed over to the contractor, and completion is expected before the end of the 2026/2027 legal year.
The Court of Appeal complex was one of several highlights of the ministry’s presentation, which covered progress in justice delivery, legislative reforms, institutional development and access to justice.
Udom said the ministry provides legal services to government ministries, departments and agencies, including prosecutions, legal opinions, legislative drafting, contract reviews, estate administration, dispute resolution and gender-based violence interventions.
The Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, said the Inter-Ministerial Briefing reflects the administration’s commitment to transparency, public accountability and good governance. He described justice delivery as central to the security and good governance pillars of the State’s ARISE Agenda.
The briefing is an accountability initiative under Governor Eno’s administration, giving ministries a platform to report on their work to the public. The Court of Appeal project will be one to watch as the 2026/2027 legal year progresses, with stakeholders expecting the complex to be ready within the stated timeline.
