Body of doctor who jumped into Lagos lagoon yet to be recovered

Dr. Orji’s body is yet to be recovered from the Lagoon over 12hours after he committed the suicidal act.

Rescue efforts still ongoing.

Over 12 hours after a medical doctor jumped jumped to his death on 3rd Mainland Bridge on Sunday, his body has not been found.

The doctor has been identified as Allwell Orji.

Orji worked with Mt. Sinai Hospital in Lagos. He was 35.

He was said to be on his way to a meeting of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) when the incident happened.

He had left his house at Abule Ijesha, Yaba, for the meeting when he suddenly told his driver, Henry Ita, to stop the Nissan SUV they rode in on the bridge.

Orji would climb the bridge’s railings and jump into the lagoon, to the shock of eyewitnesses.

His driver was said to have immediately called Orji’s mother and pastor, who both arrived the scene some 30 minutes after.

Orji’s driver and the car were subsequently taken to Adeniji Central Police Station.

His restless mother was reportedly consoled by the pastor, who prayed on the car after it was taken to the station.

Efforts to recover his body from the lagoon are still ongoing.
