A 25-year-old bricklayer, Yinusa Olowu, is in Lagos police custody for allegedly defiling a three-year old girl in Bariga.
Yinusa allegedly defiled the child while on a visit to her school, Smart Kids Say School, and was arrested on Tuesday, October 9. The suspect’s friend, Sodiq Showumi, is said to be the owner of the school.
Tests carried out on the child at Mirabel Centre reportedly confirmed the defilement.
The Child Protection Network (CPN) Coordinator for Somolu, Toyin Okanlawon, said: “His evil act was discovered after one of the pupils cried of pain while urinating at home.
“Her mother checked her private part and discovered it had been tampered with. She rushed her to a private hospital within the community where they suspected defilement,” he added.
The victim’s mother, who reported the case to the police, said the extent of damage was analysed at the centre.
Sodiq, owner of the school, was said to have pointed fingers at his friend after he was queried over the child’s defilement. He claimed he left the seven pupils at the unregistered school in Yinusa’s care while he went to pour away their urine.
“I suspect Yinusa. Two years ago, he had a case of defilement within the community,” Sodiq told the police.
Yinusa reportedly told the police that he defiled his victim with his finger.
He has been transferred to the gender unit of the State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
