HIV-positive man infects over 200 in Italy

Police say Pinti might have consciously passed on the deadly virus.

A 35-year-old HIV-positive Italian man, Mr Claudio Pinti allegedly infected over 200 women with the deadly virus by luring the women for sex through dating websites.

Police say Pinti has been diagnosed for more than 11 years and might have consciously passed on the deadly virus.

A spokesman for police in Ancona, a city on Italy’s eastern Adriatic coast, told dpa on Thursday that “when officers apprehended him, Mr Pinti declared himself a “negationist’’ on the existence of HIV.

“He was caught after one of his most recent partners checked herself into hospital after feeling ill and discovered she had contracted the virus”

“People are very reluctant to come forward because of the shame,’’ Police said.
