SARS operatives nab 5-man robbery gang over N6.7m stolen phones, laptops

The suspects also said they usually carry loads for traders on Lagos Island during the day to cover up their criminal activities at night.

A five man-gang robbery suspects from Niger Republic have been arrested for allegedly breaking and entering into a shop belonging to one Udealor Bassey to steal handsets and laptop computers valued at N6.7m.

Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS at Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island, Lagos arrested the culprits, namely: Abdulkadir Mohammed, 22; Haman Ali, 21; Bashiru Ali, 31; Zilfil Iliasu, 27 and Ayuba Hassan, 25.

The suspects on February 8, invaded the shop belonging to Bassey located at the Bariga area of Lagos, armed with iron rods, chisel and cutlasses.

They successfully carted away 325 different phones, 25 different laptop computers and 12 different phones on repairs.

The stolen items were said to be valued at N6.7m and sold to one Musa, who is now at large, for N200,000.

Police swung into action upon receiving the complaint and arrested Mohammed at Pelewura area of Lagos Island. He led the operatives to arrest two at Oluwole Market, Lagos Island and others at Ijora area of Lagos.

Items recovered from the suspects, according to the Police, included four phones belonging to different victims.

During investigation, according to the Police, all the arrested suspects confessed to the crime that they sold the stolen items to one Musa.

They also said they usually carry loads for traders on Lagos Island during the day to cover up their criminal activities at night, adding that they did not use guns, but cutlasses, chisels and iron rods.
