Motorists on Third Mainland Bridge were greeted with a shocking sight on Sunday evening, as a man was seen jumping to his death from the bridge.
The man, eyewitnesses say, had told his driver to pull over on the bridge that he needed to pee.
He then alighted from the car and leapt over the bridge’s railings into the water.
He was riding in his grey-coloured NISSAN SUV, with registration number LND476EE, before the sad incident around Adekunle, inward the popular bridge, at about 4.50pm today (Sunday).
Rescue efforts were immediately launched, as the Lagos State Emergency Agency arrived at the scene.
LASEMA said in a statement obtained by Newsroom Nigeria that the victim has been identified as a medical doctor, named simply as Orji.
The agency said rescue efforts are still ongoing to recover the victim’s body.
“The vehicle and the driver have been taken to Adeniji Adele Poice Station for further investigation, while effort is on going to recover his body from the Lagoon,” the statement said.
Mr Adesina Tiamiyu, the LASEMA General Manager, said that proper investigation would be conducted on the incident by the appropriate authorities.
