The political landscape in Akwa Ibom State is officially heating up as the State’s electoral umpire sets the wheels in motion for the next democratic transition at the grassroots level.

The Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) has formally released the statutory notice for the upcoming local government general elections, bringing clarity to months of political anticipation across the state’s various political camps.

According to the official directive issued and signed by the Secretary of the Commission, the polls have been scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 28, 2027.

The high-stakes electoral exercise will determine the new crop of political leadership, spanning both Chairmen and Councillors, to pilot the affairs of all 31 Local Government Councils in the state.

To ensure absolute compliance and wide public visibility, the commission confirmed that the official notice has been heavily publicized across all 31 local government council offices as well as the 369 ward headquarters statewide.

Meanwhile, political parties and intending candidates have been directed to channel all formal documentation and submission of nomination papers directly to the commission’s headquarters situated at 5 Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.

Addressing contingencies, the electoral body also noted that provisions have been made for potential run-off elections, which will be executed exactly seven days after the initial polls or shortly thereafter if required.

With the roadmap now officially drawn, political stakeholders, parties, and aspirants are expected to begin realigning their strategies ahead of the fast-approaching grassroots showdown.
